When it comes to witnessing greatness on a daily basis, few NBA coaches can rival Nuggets assistant Melvin Hunt.
Over the past 12 seasons with Denver, Cleveland, the Los Angeles Lakers and Houston, Hunt has worked with Hall of Fame members Hakeem Olajuwon and Charles Barkley, future Hall of Fame players Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and Shaquille O’Neal, and potential Hall of Fame forward Carmelo Anthony.
That group has combined for nearly 140,000 career points and more than 53,000 rebounds. Of the active players, James is the only one still chasing a championship in the 2011 NBA playoffs.
With the Miami Heat competing against the Chicago Bulls in the Eastern Conference finals, Hunt talked about his experience with James as a Cleveland Cavaliers assistant from 2005-10 and what separates “The Chosen One” from the other NBA greats past and present.
