Lil Wayne talked about being a Packers fan since he wore a cheese hat

Lil Wayne is a native of New Orleans, Louisiana, but like many other sports fans in the area, he doesn’t really care for the teams that play in the city. Lil Wayne has given up his birthright to play sports in his native region and switched to rooting for the Green Bay Packers instead of the New Orleans Saints as his favorite NFL club.

When he appeared on ESPN’s “First Take” on Monday, he detailed how he grew to be such an avid supporter of the Packers.

This is how he described how he became into a lifelong Cheesehead: When the Green Bay Packers defeated the New England Patriots in 1997 in Su per Bowl XXXI in New Orleans, Lil Wayne’s father was present. At fourteen years old, Wayne watched his father purc hase numerous Packers memorabilia for the household.

“The Packers won, pops came home with Packers everything, cups, towels,” he stated.

However, none of those mementos were meant to be viewed nostalgically or stored away. Coming from a low-income background, every object was utilized more for practical purposes than for their potential aesthetic value.

He clarified, saying, “They are placed with the actual towels.” Every day you take a bath, use those towels, and use those cups. Every day, I was required to use a Green Bay Packers towel and cup.”

Having apparently washed in nothing but Packers towels, Lil Wayne was all in on supporting the Pack when the 1998 edition of “Madden NFL” was out later that year. Brett Favre, the quarterback for the Packers and three-time NFL MVP, was used to play the video game, which was sufficient to eliminate the Saints.

“I will always be a Green Bay supporter… He said to Stephen A. Smith of First Take that “there is no comparison [between the Packers and the Saints].”
