Kylian Mbappe’s actions made many journalists feel embarrassed during the interview after Paris Saint Germain’s defeat to Dortmund in the Champions League semi-final second leg.
One of the most disappointed individuals after Paris Saint Germain’s (PSG) defeat is forward Kylian Mbappe, as this marks the French forward’s last participation in the Champions League wearing the Parisian club’s colors.
Mbappe had high hopes of winning the Champions League title with PSG this season, but those hopes were dashed when his team was defeated by Dortmund in both legs of the semi-final with an aggregate score of 2-0.
Mbappe was disappointed when PSG stopped in the semi-finals after losing to Dortmund in both matches
It’s worth noting that appearing in the mixed zone to answer questions from the press, French forward Kylian Mbappe unexpectedly moved to another group of journalists when the previous group asked him about joining Real Madrid after the defeat to Dortmund, as reported by Marca.
“The first one who had to score tonight should have been me,” Mbappe took responsibility when addressing reporters about his team’s loss.
“We always want to win with PSG, we feel sad. We should have scored. We had chances to score and when you don’t do that, when you’re not efficient both in attack and defense, it’s very difficult to win.
I tried to help my team as best as I could. But it wasn’t good enough. When talking about efficiency at both ends, I think I’m the first one to be mentioned. I’m the one who should be scoring and making a difference.
I have no problem taking responsibility, the first one who should have scored tonight is me,” the French forward expressed.
Mbappe also highlighted the positive aspect of PSG reaching the Champions League semi-finals despite being eliminated, thanks to new projects and many young players. He emphasized that building a team is a long process, and this season’s results show that PSG still has the potential to go far.
Coach Luis Enrique consoled Mbappe after PSG’s loss
“I think if we consider this season, taking into account the new project, quite a few new players, young players, and most of them experiencing a big club for the first time, I think that’s the best thing at the moment,” Mbappe asserted.
When asked if the match against Dortmund was his last Champions League game with PSG, Mbappe declined to answer directly: “This season, we certainly won’t be playing in the Champions League anymore. As I said, we’re very disappointed with today’s result.
In tough matches like this, you have to play effectively, and we didn’t. We had a lot of shots but not enough efficiency to progress.”
