Kevin Hart recently appeared as a guest on the Watch What Happens Live program on January 11. During the conversation, host Andy Cohen mentioned the fact that many award shows often invite comedians to take on the role of MC, including, of course, Kevin Hart.
Kevin Hart talks about scandals at the Oscars in the past
When asked about the possibility of becoming an Oscars MC in the future, Kevin Hart bluntly shared: “Forget it, it won’t happen. Nothing good.” According to actor Kevin Hart, at an earlier stage in his career, hosting the Oscars made sense to him, but now is not the right time.
After appearing on Watch What Happens Live, Kevin Hart continued to share his views in an interview with Sky News on January 12. He said that no matter how earnestly he received the invitation, he wanted to refuse that idea right now. He emphasized that not only the Oscars, the Golden Globes or other awards ceremonies are no longer comedy-friendly environments.
In December 2018, Kevin Hart was chosen to be the MC for the 91st Academy Awards taking place in early 2019. However, he had to give up this role after making homophobic statements during the process. The past was exposed and the actor had to receive opposition from the community. These words prompted thousands of people to sign a petition demanding Kevin Hart be removed from the Oscars.
Kevin Hart is adamant he is unlikely to return as Oscars MC, saying awards gigs are “very cold” and not a “comedy-friendly environment”. He affirmed that the hosts face great pressure and some special difficulties in performing in front of an international audience.
Speaking of those who have succeeded as MCs, Kevin Hart praised Chris Rock, Billy Crystal, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler and Ricky Gervais. For non-comedians, award show rooms can be a “very cold” environment, he said, and comedians have an advantage because they are familiar with many people in the industry.
