Keanu Reeves cut a dapper figure when he was spotted out and about in New York City promoting his upcoming film this week.
The 57-year-old has been doing a publicity tour in aid of The Matrix Resurrections, the long-awaited fourth instalment in his most famous franchise.
His latest outing comes after finally revealed the real reason he looked so glum in the viral ‘Sad Keanu’ picture of him on a park bench.
The photo did the rounds on the Internet and became a hugely popular meme in 2010 after he had suffered a string of personal tragedies.
Keanu had a relationship with actress Jennifer Syme beginning in 1998 but the romance ended after their child together was stillborn.
However Jennifer and Keanu stayed friendly up until 2001 when she perished tragically in a car crash at the age of 28.
When the ‘Sad Keanu’ meme took off there was much speculation online that it was connected to the shattering losses he had undergone.
But in a recent interview on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert Keanu dished that he actually looked forlorn in the picture because he was feeling peckish.
‘Man, I’m eating a sandwich!’ the movie star said of the picture. ‘I was thinking. I had some stuff going on. I was hungry.’
When the talk-show host wondered aloud why his guest had become ‘so meme-able,’ Keanu replied: ‘I have no clue, sir.’
Stephen tried to pursue the subject and Keanu responded by singing Meme On Me, his improvised parody of the Bill Withers song Lean On Me.
Jon Batiste, the house bandleader and pianist for the late-night program, even began accompanying Keanu as he sang.
The Matrix Resurrections reunites Keanu with a number of franchise mainstays including Carrie-Anne Moss and Jada Pinkett Smith.
However Laurence Fishburne who played Morpheus appears not to have been brought back for the fourth instalment by director Lana Wachowski.
‘I am not in the next Matrix movie and you know, you’d have to ask Lana Wachowski why, ’cause I don’t have an answer for that,’ he told Collider this summer.
However when the interviewer said that ‘I hope you’re lying to me’ about not being in the film Laurence, 59, responded by smiling silently.
