During their chat, a video of Lil Wayne explaining to Katie Couric why his mother decided to have him drop out of high school at the beginning of his career emerged.

After seeing him get dressed one morning, Lil Wayne said that his mother had told him he was no longer enrolled in his high school. His mother felt that he should drop out of school at age 14 so that he could safely focus on his singing career.

In the first few seconds of the short film, Couric asks Wayne, who was an honor student before quitting high school, whether he regrets not finishing.

“If this is how you’re meant to go to school, then watch TV right now, tell Baby and them, and get your GED,” she continued. I then obtained my GED and enrolled in college as a result,” he said.
