Ana de Armas is slаted to star in the forthcoming action flick.
The much-anticipated “Ballerina,” a spin-off of the popular “John Wick” series, has been postponed by a year, disappointing fans eagerly awaiting its release. However, there’s a silver lining: series creator Chad Stahelski is joining forces with director Len Wiseman to enhance the film’s action sequences now that they have more time to refine it.
According to Deadline, Lionsgate is already enthusiastic about the project, with early tracking showing promising results. Nonetheless, the studio aims to utilize the extra time to elevate the film’s quality. Ana de Armas will headline the cast, alongside familiar faces from the “John Wick” franchise, including Keanu Reeves, Ian McShane, Gabriel Byrne, and the late Lance Reddick.
The film is set between the events of “John Wick 3” and “John Wick 4,” as explained by McShane in a recent interview with Collider. This placement allows Reeves to appear in the film, despite his character meeting a seemingly definitive fate. However, this strategic timing also enables the studio to maintain suspense regarding the potential for a fifth “John Wick” installment.
In terms of the plot, “Ballerina” follows a young female аssаssin seeking vengеаnce against those responsible for her family’s murdеr. Reeves elaborated on de Armas’ character, describing her as a woman grappling with a mystеrious past and a desire for retribution. McShane revealed that his character, Winston Scott, and Charon would provide protection to de Armas’ character within the confines of The Continental Hotel in New York City, shielding her from Byrne’s antagonist.
“Ballerina” is now scheduled for release on June 6, 2025. In the meantime, fans can enjoy the “John Wick” franchise, available for streaming on Peacock, including the spin-off limited series “The Continental.”
