Tom Holland and Zendaya open up about their relationship: ‘Having a shoulder to cry on has been a huge thing for the pair of us’

With just days until their new superhero sequel Spider-Man: No Way Home hits theaters, Tom Holland and Zendaya are opening up about their relationship.

Holland and Zendaya, both 25, first played Peter Parker/Spider-Man and MJ in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming and reprised those roles in 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home.

While there had been rumors about their romance for months – including paparazzi photos of them kissing – they finally confirmed their romance last month, with Holland speaking about the romance in an AP interview from London.

Holland was speaking to the press when he spotted his girlfriend, stating, ‘There she is, looking beautiful, might I add — as ever.’

When asked about the relationship, Holland said it started with ‘companionship,’ and led to more.

‘Two friends coming together, experiencing this world, going through the same problems at the same time, having a shoulder to cry on, has been a huge thing for the pair of us, and with Jacob (Batalon) as well. We really are a family,’ Holland said.

‘Becoming famous at the age of 19 … this is a different kind of fame. There’s not a corner of the world that Spider-Man hasn’t touched. It’s a lot to take in, so it’s really nice for me to have a family to share that with,’ Holland added.

Zendaya also spoke about their relationship, adding that they just support each other and are there for one another.

‘I think just sometimes you have to be a person to vent to, someone to just be there and listen,’ Zendaya added.

The actress added that she has been ‘lucky’ that her life hasn’t changed overnight, since she’s been acting since she was young, calling it a ‘slow progression.’

She added that she got to ‘figure it out as I go and get my footing a bit,’ though for Holland, it was, ‘so much all at once because you’re Spider-Man.’

‘You’re Spider-Man and your life changes. I have an extreme amount of empathy for that, so anything I learned, or have learned or continue to learn, I share with him, and anything he learns he shares with me,’ she added.

Holland also confirmed at that London event for Spider-Man: No Way Home that he will be playing Fred Astaire in an upcoming biopic for Sony Pictures.

‘Oh I am playing Fred Astaire, yeah. The script came in a week ago. I haven’t read it yet. They haven’t given it to me,’ Holland said.

The film will be produced by his Spider-Man producer Amy Pascal, but the project doesn’t have a director at this time.
