Spider-Man: No Way Home wins box office for third week in a row as it’s made $609.9M in domestic totals and $1.37B internationally

Spider-Man: No Way Home was the top film of the week at the box office for the third consecutive week, taking in $52.7 million to bring its totals to $609.9 million domestically, as well as $1.37 billion worldwide.

With its impressive totals, the Marvel motion picture starring Tom Holland is the 10th highest-grossing film all-time domestically, passing 2018’s Incredibles 2, which made $608 million. 

The next two spots on the chart are 2017’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi with $620 million; and 2012’s The Avengers with $623 million.

With $1.37 billion in international totals, the film, which costars Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch and Alfred Molina, is the 12th highest-grossing film all-time worldwide, surpassing the 2018 smash Black Panther, which made $1.34 billion.

The third Spider-Man motion picture casting Holland in the lead role cemented Marvel’s having the top four films in domestic box office revenue for 2021, as it also had hits such as Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Black Widow.

The success of the movie, according to Comscore, added to 2021’s domestic box office totals surpassing the $4.5 billion mark, which was up 101 percent from 2020 totals (when theaters were closed down most of the year due to the coronavirus pandemic) and down 60 percent from 2019’s pre-pandemic totals.

Sing 2 came in second at the box office with $19.6 million in its second week, as the animated film has made $89.7 million in domestic totals and $144 million worldwide.

Coming in third place domestically was The King’s Man with $4.5 million; American Underdog was in fourth with $4.1 million; and The Matrix Revolutions made $3.8 million to take fifth place.

Rounding out the domestic box office top 10 for the week’s last year included West Side Story, with $2.1 million; Ghostbusters: Afterlife with $1.4 million; Licorice Pizza with $1.2 million; A Journal for Jordan taking in $1.2 million and Encanto in 10th place with $1.1 million.

Among the high-profile films set to hit theaters in 2022 include Avatar 2, The Batman, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Jurassic World: Dominion and Top Gun: Maverick, among others.
