A pergola is one of those outdoor items that adds so much more to your exterior living space. Not only can they be used as a walkway to connect different areas of the garden, but they also provide shade on hot days and give the garden an aged or established feel.

Traditionally, a pergola was a long structure with open lattice work and supporting beams overhead, often covered in a climbing plant of some description. Today, a pergola could be anything from a shaded walkway to an enclosed sitting area. Regardless of its shape or size, a pergola is perfect to use as a screen for increasing the privacy of your backyard by blocking out prying eyes. But you have to choose the right fast-growing plant, or it may take years before you enjoy the full effect of your beautiful floral screen.
