1960 Pontiac Bonneville Convertible

The Bonneville convertible was Pontiac’s top-of-the-line-model for 1960, and it retains that premier aura today. Pontiac dropped some of the Bonneville’s most elaborate styling cues for 1960, creating a clean, elegant car. The handsome good looks starts with the signature split grille and quad headlamps, and follow the long beltline moldings that end with three chrome dashes to two pairs of rocket-tube tail lamps. Giving a touch of class, adornments are limited to tasteful fender scripts, the Pontiac V-shape emblem on the lower front fenders, and subtle remnants of the fanciful fins of the years before. This car’s white finish is in excellent condition, bright and clean and smooth. The bumpers and trim, too, are clean and bright.

More than just good looks, this beautiful restoration sports the “Tri-Power” triple two-barrel carburetor option for its potent 389 cubic inch V8 engine. The Bonneville name was inspired by the Utah Salt Flats, where so many of the world’s land speed records have been set. In addition to straight line speed, the Bonneville boasted a “wide-track” stance, with wheels pushed farther out toward the fenders than any other manufacturer. It was an increase of five inches over the previous generation! Pontiac had produced what many considered to be America’s best-cornering full-size car.

Open the door and slide into the beautiful Harbor Blue leather driver’s seat, an appropriate name for colors that channel the bright blues of coastal Greece. Mediterranean vacation, anyone? The dash is in excellent condition, as are the walnut inserts, abundant original brightwork, and wood steering wheel. Additional luxury appointments include a power seat and power windows.

If you’re looking for a rare, beautiful, muscular luxury car from the days when they did it right, this 1960 Pontiac Bonneville Convertible is the very car you’re seeking. There are more features to list—power steering, power brakes, hydra-matic transmission, etc.—but this car is more than the sum of its parts.
